Climate activism

I am convinced that the climate crises is by far the biggest justice challenge we are facing: While the Global North is primarily responsible for this crises, many people primarily in the Global South are already suffering of the consequences of this crises. From my privilege of benefitting from the historical emissions of Germany (as well as being a well-educated, white man) follows a responsibility for me to contribute to a better world. While I try to lead a sustainable lifestyle, by eating mostly food I rescue with the organisation food-sharing for instance, the solution to the climate crises needs to be structural and hence I am convinced that we need political solutions! For this reason I support the coal-mining threatened German village of Lützerath, support Fridays for Future as well as I am founding member of the climate organisation Klimadelegation (see below).

Working with Klimadelegation

Together with the youth-climate organisation Klimadelegation e.V. we are advocating politically for climate justice at the international level. Being a German climate organisation two things follow from our understanding of climate justice: First and foremost, we understand ourselves in the role of listeners of those mostly affected from the climate crises, actively stepping back to make space for their stories. Secondly, given the historical responsibility of Germany we see it as our responsibility to lobby German policy makers for more ambitious climate mitigation policies as well as more adaptation and loss and damage funding.

We are accredited as an observer organisation with the United Nations Climate Change Framework Convention (UNFCCC). Personally I have attended COP 23 and 26 as well SB 52 and 55.
